CASTLECLIFF VINTAGE: SINGLE GOLDEN AVIAN PENDANT
c. early 1970's
A unique tribute to ancient West African artistry, this piece beautifully reimagines a Natural History Museum discovery of West African sculptural gold weights. The pendant features a single intricately detailed bird-like figure, it's round forms reminiscent of both birds and fish, capturing the blend of mythology and natural elements so central to ancient cultures.
With its hammered gold texture and minimalist sculpting, the avian figure create a sense of movement and flight. Suspended on a bold chain, this piece was designed by the prolific Lawrence Vrba in the early 1970s. Finished in Russian gold plating, this necklace is a rare and fascinating piece of wearable history, handcrafted in NYC.
